Frequently Asked Questions

How long do wooden garden pergolas last?

The longevity of your bespoke wooden pergola depends on a couple of factors, including:

  • The type and quality of the materials used
  • The climate it’s subjected to
  • How well you take care of it

At Pheasant & Co., we only use the highest quality, pressure-treated wood for our wooden pergola building kits, which lasts a lot longer than untreated timber alternatives.

Being super sturdy and weatherproof, pressure-treated timber has the potential to last for up to 40 years, whereas others only tend to last 10-12 years at best.

Like anything else, though, the lifespan of your wooden pergola is largely determined by how well you take care of it.

To get your money’s worth, you should give it a good clean once or twice a year with a mild detergent and gentle pressure washer to eliminate any build-ups of mould, mildew and algae.

Re-sealing or re-staining is also a good idea during the summer months, to add an additional layer of protection against harsh UV rays.

Why choose a bespoke wooden pergola kit?

Choosing a bespoke wooden pergola kit over a pre-cut alternative comes with many advantages that you may not even realise.

Of course, bespoke kits cater to your specific needs, help maximise your space and ensure you don’t have to make further adjustments for absolute perfection.

Having the freedom to design your own pergola could also be beneficial for your budget, too.

Whilst the cost of bespoke kits is, undeniably, more expensive, you can design your pergola with your price in mind, without having to pay for additional features you don’t want or need, and adding those you do to make the absolute most of your money.

Are custom-crafted pergola kits easy to build?

Absolutely!

Your kit will arrive with all the parts you need – pre-cut to your chosen size, and ready to screw together.

You should also find a set of instructions within your bespoke self-assembly kit, with simple step-by-step instructions to guide you through the building process.

Generally, bespoke pergolas require 2 people to put them together and will take around 2-3 hours to do so.

This should be everything you need to build your bespoke wooden pergola, but if you need any additional advice, get in touch with our experts and we’ll be happy to help.

What can wooden pergolas be used for?

Whatever you decide to use your bespoke pergola for, it’s guaranteed to look great.

Some popular uses include:

  • Outdoor entertainment areas – if your home is the go-to for family barbecues, or game nights with friends, a pergola will help you create a comfortable, welcoming entertainment space and provide shelter from the rain or shade from the sun.
  • Hot tub or barbecue shelters – whether you need privacy from nosey neighbours when you’re out in your hot tub, or protection for your barbecue in summer showers, pergolas are the ideal choice.
  • Trellises – If you’re a keen gardener, pergolas make the perfect support for climbing plants and provide the ideal opportunity to create a stunning backyard focal point.
