The longevity of your bespoke wooden pergola depends on a couple of factors, including:
- The type and quality of the materials used
- The climate it’s subjected to
- How well you take care of it
At Pheasant & Co., we only use the highest quality, pressure-treated wood for our wooden pergola building kits, which lasts a lot longer than untreated timber alternatives.
Being super sturdy and weatherproof, pressure-treated timber has the potential to last for up to 40 years, whereas others only tend to last 10-12 years at best.
Like anything else, though, the lifespan of your wooden pergola is largely determined by how well you take care of it.
To get your money’s worth, you should give it a good clean once or twice a year with a mild detergent and gentle pressure washer to eliminate any build-ups of mould, mildew and algae.
Re-sealing or re-staining is also a good idea during the summer months, to add an additional layer of protection against harsh UV rays.
